eco oasis...

i won't lie, i spent a decent amount of time perusing old entries of jeana sohn's blog this week. i love the way she sees things, and was meanwhile introduced to some new places in my native los angeles. one of which was the smog shoppe - a 100% solar-powered 6,500 square foot haven for desert plants, vertical gardens, and chic vintage furnishings. it's beautiful and i think would be a super fun place to host a wedding.

delphine eatery

a bit of a relief from a week of what feels like solely fashion-related posts: delphine eatery & bar. love the mid-century feel behind this locale in hollywood.

p.s. on the topic of food, so excited to check this out on saturday with some fellow food-minded folk.

v-day

this year, in honor of valentine's day, i'm planning to host a dinner party a-la julie & julia. no beef bourguignon, but certainly some homemade heart brooches.

also loving these simple heart studs by christine mighion (thanks for the heads-up, connie!) also completely in love with this heart ring that joanna posted about.

this year i will...

Posted on | 01 January 2010 | No Comments

i compiled a decent-sized list of things i'd like to accomplish this year. i know everyone is very hyped for twenty-ten, and i can't wait to see what new beginnings and exciting opportunities it brings. i can't remember the last time i didn't have a solid goal and destination in mind, so for now i'm going to see where each day takes me. wishing you all the best for the new year...

united states artists event

Posted on | 15 December 2009 | No Comments

had such a great time at the united states artists celebration on monday night. it was so inspiring to be among so many talented artists from completely different disciplines and backgrounds. the performances were fantastic and the crowd was filled with several noteworthy folks (frank gehry and herbie hancock, to name a few). i can't wait to see what other exciting ventures develop from this organization - they are definitely on to something. check out their website for more info.

particularly moving was a puppetry performance by one of the grant recipients, basil twist, that really brought out the child in me.

USAF event

i feel honored to say that tonight i've been asked to attend the united states artists fellows announcement and celebration to live blog the winners and event happenings. "united states artists (USA) is a grant-making organization dedicated to supporting america's finest living artists working in a diverse array of disciplines. after decades of dwindling public support, artists now have a home where they may find significant private funding—unrestricted cash grants—to ignite the creativity that makes this country great." can't wait to see all of the amazing talent this evening.

*you can keep up with all the happenings tonight as i post via twitter (@destinedtodesgn) starting at 6:30pm PST.

chez cherie

Posted on | 09 September 2009 | 1 Comment

okay, last mention of my birthday, i promise. but this was just too good to keep to myself. my mom signed us up for a cooking class at chez cherie in la canada, the focus on which was cooking using only ingredients from trader joe's. brilliant! i couldn't believe some of the dishes they concocted. cherry rice pilaf, orzo with shrimp & corn salsa, berry crumbles...it was delectable.

city sip la

Posted on | 12 July 2009 | No Comments

brilliant! city sip la teaches classes for those who are new to (but love) wine and want to know the difference between a chardonnay and a cabernet. "learn the basics of wine tasting and impress your friends at the next dinner out! from ordering off a menu to discovering your own personal taste, this class is perfect for wine beginners and wine lovers who want to hone their skills." man, it's little things like this that remind me why l.a. is awesome.

note: i'm still on the hunt for the perfect riesling. after i tried a 2008 from los alamos vineyard that changed my life, i've been searching (with no luck) to find a bottle of it. suggestions greatly appreciated.

hot air balloon

am i the only one who has secretly dreamed about taking a hot air balloon ride? it's one of those things you never think of doing, but it sounds like so much fun. this one even takes you over temecula wine country to go tasting. i'm in.

au revoir

another week over, and a lovely weekend to come. where i'd like to be this weekend? right here in l.a.! there's so much going on, between dwell on design, trekking la, anthology recordings at palihouse, mobile la, ca|boom, and the cal arts exhibit...it's gonna be a busy two days.

trekking los angeles

Posted on | 24 June 2009 | No Comments

discovered this website called trekking los angeles that is essentially an interactive map to the cultural neighborhoods of l.a. it provides you with a guide to get the most out of each area; places to go, things to eat, art to see. it came about as a partnership between l.a. commons and the ucla department of urban planning. i can't wait to check out highland park in all its artistic glory. what a brilliant idea -- this is why i love l.a.

cinespia

Posted on | 22 June 2009 | No Comments

every summer, the hollywood forever cemetery hosts cinepsia: screenings of several cult classic films in an unusual but awesome setting. this past saturday they were screening the graduate, and i planned to attend, only to find five blocks backed up in either direction and hoards of people waiting inside for tickets. needless to say, i skipped it and saw away we go instead (two thumbs up). i was told a 6pm arrival is necessary for the 9pm screening, but totally worth it. gonna take another shot this weekend to see east of eden.

blog out loud

Posted on | 05 June 2009 | No Comments

i attended the blog out loud event last night and it was even greater than i anticipated. i was so inspired by the time i got home that it was difficult not to stay up all night perusing blogs and updating my own. i look forward to megan & rebecca hosting another event in the near future.

*a special thanks to richele at richie designs for the shout-out. her etsy store is chock-full of goodies and definitely worth checking out.
*EDIT: and jonathan from happy mundane! how exciting to start connecting in the blogosphere.
