fall favorites: dress, design & decor

Daniella here from Dress, Design & Decor, happy to share my favourite things for Fall. There's so many lovely things about the season, from apple picking to apple pie, cashmere sweaters and leather boots, home-cooked meals and staying cozy into the night...but most all, I love getting to experience all these fun Fall activities with my wonderful boyfriend! There's so much to see and do during this time and we've managed to go to a few Fall festivals this year already. I encourage you to look up what festivals are going on in your area too, as you never know what's going on next door to you! They really are fun, with lots of yummy food to enjoy of course...fresh apple fritters and kettle corn being favourites of ours. So good and perfect for enjoying Fall...have fun!
I love picnics anytime of the year but fall is particularly wonderful. I spent an idyllic childhood in New Hampshire where the leaves burst into the brightest array of reds and oranges every fall. I still like to jump into piles of leaves! And, on those fall days when it's still bearable to be outside, I love to take my meals outdoors.

Autumn is by far my favorite season. I look forward to taking walks with my husband as the leaves are turning colors, wrapping myself up in all of my cozy blankets (I have an obsession with blankets), making homemade apple cider and going to the pumpkin patch with my girlfriends in Half Moon Bay. Who doesn’t like throwing on a bunch of layers and heading out into some crisp cool air? I love it. I’ve already brought out my boots, scarves, jackets and Antipast socks. Welcome Autumn, I’m ready for you!

The Playoffs
I'm a longtime Yankees fan, but living in Hawaii with a 6-hour time difference makes watching the regular season difficult. During the playoffs I watch every game without fail.

Fall Food
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I'm into all the flavors of fall, especially anything pumpkin flavored. I have a great recipe for gluten-free pumpkin cupcakes that I adapted from this muffin recipe.

Smaller Surf
As much as I love the ocean, I actually have a fear of large waves. So in the fall when all the other surfers are sad that surf on the South Shore (where I live) is down, I'm happy. Surfing or stand-up paddling in fun, little waves is my favorite.

HIFF
I've never seen a movie I didn't like at the Honolulu Film Festival (HIFF). They always show great surf films and I'm looking forward to seeing the latest one from Taylor Steele, Castles in the Sky, among others when HIFF starts this week.

New Media
I know it's really fall when I start seeing fat issues of my favorite magazines. It's also great when new seasons of some of my favorite shows begin. Lately I've especially been loving Modern Family.

fall favorites: color collective
{ASOS, Chanel Nail Polish, Pendleton Blanket}
Clothes: There’s nothing better than a little fall shopping!
Colors: I am a huge fan of black, glittery gold, and camel browns.
Coziness: Snuggling up in a warm blanket next to a fire on a rainy autumn day could just be my favorite fall activity!

Avocados
I know you can technically get them year round now, but as a kid the first ripe avocados meant that the seasons were changing and winter was steadily creeping up on us. Avos are better than chocolate in my world. Spread generously on hot buttered toast with salt & pepper and I’m set.

Boots
I start wearing them as soon as the weather turns... even when it’s still inappropriately warm for my poor feet. A short boot with a heel makes everything look better, in my opinion. These are just some of my favourites right now (I rocked ankle boots all through the cold season) ... clockwise from left: Rachel Comey Mars Boot ; APC Buckle Ankle Boot ; Acne Pistol Boot ; Rachel Comey Londonderry Boot.

The Cape Winelands
I live in probably the most beautiful part of the world. Sorry everyone, but it’s true. You only have to take a drive through wine country when the colours are changing to agree with me on this. While you’re at it stop at one of the million wine estates and sample some red or white, arguably the most enjoyable thing to do on a crispy autumn afternoon. This is the view from Seidelberg Estate in Paarl.
